One couldn’t agree more that Donatella Versace’s fascinating life as one of world’s most renowned designer is also one of the more dramatic ones…. so dramatic that it can be made into a movie.  Lifetime had the same thoughts as tonight, the network will be featuring an unauthorized biography film, House of Versace, starring Gina Gershon as Donatella.

The film, directed by Sara Sugarman, is based off of Deborah Ball’s book of the same title, covering Gianni Versace’s glamorous empire – it’s fall, and rise after his death.  Ball conducted more than 220 interviews, which included Donatella and her brother Santo.

There has been a lot of buzz about how this bioepic might just be the greatest Lifetime movie ever made.  Following Donatella’s drug addiction and rehab stints, the film will also show how she fought her demons to return and  rekindle the Versace brand stronger than before.

Unfortunately, the real House of Versace is distancing itself from from the movie.  A statement made to Women’s Wear Daily:

Versace has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV movie about Mrs. Versace… Since Versace did not authorize the book on which it is based, the movie should only be seen as a work of fiction.

Oh no, makes you want to watch it more, doesn’t it?  I can’t say anything, as I have yet to watch it, although from seeing promotional photos, on a physical level Gina Gershon has Donatella  spot-on!

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gina Gershon reveals how she transformed into Donatella.  From the makeup, the shoes, to her voice and mannerisms.  I found it very interesting that they actually have never met, and that Gershon preferred it that way.

At a certain point, I didn’t want to [meet her]. If I had met her before I probably wouldn’t have done it because you feel very protective over people. Although I feel like it’s ultimately a very flattering portrayal of her. I only have super respect for her.

“House of Versace” premieres tonight, Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.

Will you be tuning in?

Love,
Honey
